I was looking for some personal lubrication in a Toys R Us that was having a going out of business sale. I wandered through the aisles of toys trying to find their beauty and health section. When I finally found it, a store employee suggested I try a specific strawberry-scented shampoo. She pulled it off the shelf and handed it to me. I thanked her and, too embarrassed to ask about the personal lubrication, put it back on the shelf and left the store.

I had parked in an empty row and my car was orthogonal to the parking spaces. When I got back to my car, a large truck had parked behind me and two small cars in front of me. All three vehicles were orthogonal to the parking spaces, and the small cars were parked side by side.

There wasn’t enough room for me to back out or go forward around the cars, but it looked like my car might fit in the space between the two small cars in front of me. I inched the car forward and squeezed between the cars, realizing only too late that I wouldn’t fit. As I pulled all the way through I felt the car on my right scrape along the side of my car. I swung around the parking lot in a large circle until I was parked pointing at the car I had just dented.

I got out of my car and a tall, skinny blonde woman got out of the big truck screaming at me. A shorter brunette woman came out of the store and headed toward the cars. I tried to ignore the blonde and saw that the two cars had somehow smashed together. The blonde woman grabbed the bumper of the car on the left, her car, and pulled it away from the brunette’s car.

I yelled at the blonde woman to not disturb the scene until the police showed up. I sat down with the brunette woman to exchange insurance information. She was quiet and very nice; I dreaded having to sit down with the blonde woman. I felt silly that my car had just gotten out of the body shop.
