I had a small baby girl who looked like a small trinket. She was peach colored, made of clay, and fit in my pocket: about one inch long and a quarter inch in diameter. All of a sudden I couldn’t find her. I asked B if he had the baby, but he though I had the baby. I searched and searched through all my pockets and in my right coat pocket found a clump of clay that was hard and dry. I was scared I had killed her.

I had a new and beautiful hairdo. There were two twists down the back of my head and the rest of it was pinned up at my crown, cascading down in heavy ringlets. The curl was natural, and the hairdo made me feel very dressy even though I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

I stood at my parent’s living room window with my mother looking out at my father’s shop. I could see that there was a large square pit dug underneath the shop, a pit so deep that I could not see the bottom of it. The pit was surrounded with lush green grass that had browned near one corner. The shop was resting on top of a very large round pole, the bottom of which I also could not see.

I asked my mom what had happened to the shop. She told me that she had asked my uncle to dig up all the browned grass surrounding the shop and replace it with fresh grass seed. Apparently he dug and dug until the hole became a giant pit. “And he still didn’t get all the brown grass,” my mother said.

I was holding a baby at my breast. It was the first time I was trying to breast feed, and I had to reposition the baby a few times before its mouth latched onto the nipple. I was surprised to feel milk flowing from my breast because my breasts weren’t any larger than normal and otherwise didn’t feel any different. I wondered how I would know it was time to switch breasts. My mother sat nearby watching to make sure I didn’t have any trouble. The baby was happy.

Music filled the space around me. It was red and extremely soothing.

Some different music started up and, while pleasant enough, was blue and did not fit with the red music.

The blue music was coming from my radio alarm.

I was walking through a crowded mall with my brother John. He was on crutches and his left foot was wrapped in a large ace bandage.

We came upon a racing event; the goal was to be the first person to run four laps around a large sand pit. John entered the reace, and I worried that he would not only lose, but also reinjur his foot.

At the sound of the start gun, thirty men took off around the sand pit. John hopped into the center of the pit where the ground was a few feet lower than at the edges. He ran four small laps around the center point .

Watching him I knew that he was cheating. But then I realized that the rules didn’t say the winner must run a lap around the perimiter of the sand pit.

John won the race.
