Dream Journal
I was at a cabin on a lake one bright, sunny summer day with a male relative about my age and a younger female relative. An asteroid was coming, and I knew its trajectory would hit this very lake. I knew all of this because I had dreamed about it before.
I couldn’t convince anyone to believe me. I wanted everyone to get in the battered white truck and drive as fast and as far away from the lake as we could.
I watched the asteroid’s fiery tail as it bulleted through the atmosphere. Everyone believed me, but it was too late. The asteroid hit and the little cabin blew into tiny bits. We were able to hide very low to the ground and our lives were spared.
The dream repeated, and this second time people believed me that an asteroid was coming. The girl and I jumped in the back of the truck while the man drove it as fast as it could up the hill and away from the lake.
I saw the asteroid’s tail and knew we were too slow.
The dream repeated again, and we were able to get away from the lake soon enough. We barreled down the twisty hills away from the lake and came to a small town where there was a traffic jam.
We ran a red light and the police arrested us for acting disorderly. They did not believe an asteroid was coming.
They brought us to the police station where we escaped and ran through the concrete parking garage looking for a car to steal. The small town was still too close to the lake.
As we ran past one car with its doors open, we heard a radio news report about the asteroid. We felt smug that we knew about it before the news.
Now that the general populace had heard about the asteroid, the traffic was worse than before. And one police officer who hadn’t heard about the asteroid was still chasing us on foot. We were running out of time to get away from the asteroid impact. I wondered if we oughtn’t stay in the underground parking garage, if that would be safe.
