Dream Journal
I was kneeling in the snow outside a window in my house; B was on the warmer side of the window watching me. It was evening and quite dark outside. I held a firework in my hand and lit the fuse. My very important job was to hold the firework and make sure it went off properly.
But at the very last second I dropped the firework. Instead of shooting up, it shot to my left, parallel to the ground. I ducked down and covered my head with my hands to protect my face and neck. I also squeezed my eyes closed. I went back inside very disappointed that I had lost control of the firework and didn’t get to see it explode in the sky.
A bit later, the doorbell rang. I opened the door to a policeman who asked me if I knew anything about the accidents and fire in the nearby intersection. I could see behind him that the entire intersection was ablaze and numerous cars were piled on top of each other.
I walked down towards the intersection with him while he told me everything about what happened and what the police knew - which wasn’t much. I knew that my firework caused the fire, but I didn’t tell him this.
In a nearby laboratory, a scientist was working late. He was experimenting on tadpoles when the intersection burst into flames. He knew he had to get out of the building before the fire spread to the lab. But before he did, he flushed his precious tadpoles down the toilet in hopes of their survival.
In the sewers, the tadpoles turned into monsters as large as blue whales. I volunteered to help with the problem; I felt very guilty that my firework accident had caused so much trouble.
I put on a diving suit and jumped into the sewer system with scientists and police officers. It wasn’t long before we came upon one of the giant tadpoles. While we were trying to sedate it, it ate one of the divers. I was scared, but mostly overwhelmed by my guilt.
